Straight answers about used enterprise hardware
Grading, compatibility, warranty, data erasure, and what happens when something goes wrong. If your question is not here, a person will answer it the same business day.
Ordering & shipping
How stock moves, what it costs, and how it arrives.
Orders placed before 3pm ET on a business day ship the same day. Everything in the continental US goes out on free 1–2 day service — that is the standard rate, not an upsell at checkout.
If an item is listed as low stock, it is a real count, not a scarcity banner. When something is out, the product page tells you the expected intake date rather than letting you order into a backlog.
Drives ship in anti-static clamshells with foam, seated in a rigid outer box. Never a padded envelope — the padding is not the point, the suspension is. Multi-drive orders go out in molded trays.
Servers and switches ship on their original rails and foam where we have it, double-boxed where we do not. If you need something crated for a freight lane, tell us before the order goes out.
Yes, to roughly 40 countries. Duties and taxes are calculated at checkout for Canada, the UK, and the EU; everywhere else we quote landed cost before charging you, so nothing shows up at your door with a customs bill attached.
Net 30 is available to approved business accounts, and we accept POs from schools, hospitals, and government buyers without a credit check. Quotes hold their pricing for 14 days.
Everyone else can use card, ACH, or wire. Wire gets a small discount on orders over $5,000 because it costs us less to process.
Will-call pickup is available with two hours notice during business hours. Bring the order number and photo ID. If you are collecting a pallet, tell us in advance so it is wrapped and staged on a dock rather than sitting on a shelf.
Condition & grading
What the grade on a listing actually tells you about the hardware.
New is sealed, unopened stock, covered by the 1-year AnyHDD warranty and, where applicable, potentially eligible for the manufacturer's warranty as well.
Certified Refurbished has been wiped, diagnosed, burned in for 48 hours, and cosmetically inspected. It carries the same 1-year AnyHDD warranty and ships with its SMART report.
Renewed clears the same electrical testing but may show rack marks or handling wear. Same warranty, same claim process — you are trading appearance for price, not reliability.
Every used listing shows the power-on-hours range for that batch. We do not list certified refurbished drives over 25,000 hours, and anything with reallocated sectors, pending sectors, or a failing SMART attribute never makes it to the site at all.
The actual figure for the unit you receive is on the report in the box, so you can check our number against yours.
Product photos are representative of the model, not the individual unit. Label revisions, firmware versions, and OEM branding vary within a model line.
If you need matched units — same batch, same firmware, same revision — say so before ordering. We pull matched lots when stock allows and confirm what you are getting before it ships.
Yes. A full SMART capture and a certificate of erasure ship in the box with every used unit and land in your inbox with the tracking email. That includes power-on hours, reallocated sector count, and the burn-in result.
Some are, and the listing says so. OEM-firmware drives work normally in the matching chassis and usually work fine elsewhere, though a foreign controller may flag them as unsupported.
Where a model is available in both generic and OEM firmware, we list them separately. If you need one specifically, ask and we will confirm before shipping.
Warranty & returns
Coverage, claims, and what happens when something fails.
One year on everything, regardless of grade — new, certified refurbished, renewed, and AnyHDD-branded cables and accessories. Coverage runs for a full year from the date of delivery.
Where applicable, new items may also be eligible for the original manufacturer's warranty, but AnyHDD's own 1-year coverage applies to your purchase either way. Manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to refurbished units sold by a third party, so on those, ours is the coverage that applies.
You choose: replacement or refund, no diagnostic gauntlet first. Dead-on-arrival units go on an expedited path — we ship the replacement as soon as the claim is confirmed rather than waiting for the failed unit to come back.
No — there is no restocking fee on returns, and refunds go back to your original payment method.
Return shipping is separate: if you are returning for any reason other than a defect or an error on our part, the return label is yours to cover. If the item arrived defective, damaged, or is not what you ordered, AnyHDD pays the return shipping.
Yes, line by line. Bought twelve drives and only need eight? Send four back inside the window. Volume pricing is not clawed back on a partial return unless it drops you below the tier minimum, and we tell you if that is the case before issuing the label.
Compatibility & specs
Will it work in your chassis — and what you need alongside it.
Send us the server model and the backplane type and we will tell you before you buy. The usual blockers are interface (SAS drives will not run on a SATA-only backplane, though the reverse works), sector size, and OEM firmware validation on older Dell and HPE controllers.
- SATA — 6Gb/s, single port, cheapest per terabyte. Right for bulk capacity, backup targets, and media.
- SAS — 12Gb/s, dual port, better error handling and queue depth. Right for arrays that need redundancy at the path level.
- NVMe — PCIe attached, no HBA in the way. Right for databases, virtualization, and anything latency-bound.
Capacity per dollar still favors SATA nearline drives by a wide margin. If the workload is sequential, faster interfaces buy you very little.
Usually, and they are chassis specific. Drives ship bare unless the listing says otherwise. Tell us the server model and we will include the correct caddies rather than letting you find out on install day.
Used units are updated to the current stable release for the model before grading. If you need to match an existing array on an older revision, tell us the version — we can usually supply it or flash to it on request.
Data security
What happens to the data on hardware that passes through us.
Every drive is wiped to NIST 800-88 Purge before it is graded, and a certificate of erasure is generated against the serial number. Drives that cannot be verified as erased are physically destroyed instead of being resold — there is no third option.
Yes. We shred to a 20mm particle size and issue a certificate of destruction listing every serial. Witnessed destruction is available if your compliance policy requires someone from your side in the room.
Serialized on intake, held in a locked cage until erasure, and logged at every step. You get the intake manifest and the erasure certificates as a matched pair, which is what most auditors are actually asking for.
Selling to us
Turning decommissioned hardware back into budget.
Enterprise storage, servers, networking, GPUs, and datacenter power gear — any quantity, from a single drive to a full rack. Mixed pallets are fine. We would rather sort it than have you sort it.
Send a list with models, capacities, and quantities. You get a firm quote within one business day, freight covered on anything over ten units, and payment on receipt and verification.
If the hardware does not match the list, we do not quietly re-price it — we call you before anything moves.
Yes, including on-site pickup, pallet wrapping, and rack teardown in most metros. Bring us in during planning rather than the week of, and the recovery value is usually higher because gear comes out of service in working order.
They still have value as parts and reclaimed material, and we handle the compliance either way. Dead drives go to certified destruction with a certificate, and R2-certified recycling handles anything with no remaining life.
Business & volume
Buying at scale, holding stock, and working with us long term.
Yes, starting at ten units of the same model. Tiers go up from there, and standing contracts get a fixed price sheet so you are not renegotiating every quarter.
We reserve inventory against a signed quote for up to 60 days, which covers most build-out schedules. For longer programs we will buy to your forecast and warehouse it — that is a conversation, not a checkout button.
The hardware and the warranty are identical. Direct gets you volume pricing, payment terms, matched-batch pulls, and a person who can check a compatibility question against the actual unit.
Amazon is the faster path if you need one drive and you are already there. We are not going to pretend otherwise.
Try a shorter phrase, or ask us directly — we answer the same business day.
Ask a questionNobody here works from a script
Questions about compatibility, firmware, or a decommission plan go to the people who test the hardware, not a call center. Send a model number and the chassis it is going into and you will get a real answer.
