Reads anything you point it at.

A 2D imager takes a picture of the code instead of sweeping a laser line across it, so it reads QR codes, coupons on a phone screen and shipping labels as easily as a UPC — at any angle, first time. Plug in the USB cable and it types the result wherever the cursor is.

Phone screens, faded labels, wide codes.

Zebra's PRZM decode software is built for the barcodes that stall a 1D scanner: coupons and boarding passes on a phone, labels that have been printed badly or rubbed, and codes at an angle. The imager reads through ±65° of skew and pitch and any rotation, with as little as 25% contrast between bars and background.

The aim line works like a laser scanner's, so staff moving up from an LS2208 don't relearn anything — and the illumination flashes on the code itself to confirm a read, useful when the beeper can't be heard.

Ranges are Zebra's typical figures for the DS2208 at the stated barcode resolution; printing quality, contrast and ambient light affect real-world results. Smaller or larger codes than the stated size will read at different distances.

Trigger it, or set it down and let it watch.

Drop the scanner into a presentation stand and it switches itself to hands-free mode; pick it up and the trigger takes over. No setting to change.

Plug it in. It types.

Over USB the DS2208 shows up as a keyboard, so every scan lands as typed characters in whatever field is active — a point-of-sale app, a spreadsheet, a browser, an inventory system. No driver. Zebra's cables identify the host interface themselves, and the scanner ships pre-configured for the common cases.

One scanner for every register.

The DS2200 series is Zebra's mainstream retail imager — pre-configured, managed from a PC or phone, and compatible with the cables an LS2208 fleet already owns.

Ready out of the box

Defaults cover most scanning applications. If a site needs changes, scan the setting barcodes in Zebra's Product Reference Guide, or build a single setup barcode in 123Scan.

Fleet configuration

123Scan builds one programming barcode for a whole configuration; Scanner Management Service manages scanners remotely and reads asset information.

Reuses LS2208 cables

Backwards compatible with Zebra's LS2208 universal cables, so upgrading a 1D fleet to 2D doesn't mean re-buying cables.

Software support

Zebra Scanner SDKs for Windows, Android, iOS and Linux; settings, LED and beeper controllable from Windows, Android and iOS hosts.

Works with the register you have.

USB keyboard emulation is understood by every operating system. Serial and keyboard-wedge interfaces cover older registers.

What your register needs

A free USB port, or a serial or keyboard port with the matching Zebra cable. The scanner draws its power from the port — no power adapter.

What you don't need

A driver, a battery or a charger. Plug in, wait for the beep, scan.

New, ready to connect.

Questions we get asked.

Does it work with a Mac, an iPad or a Chromebook?

Over USB the scanner presents itself as a keyboard, which every operating system understands, so a Mac or Chromebook with a USB port works without a driver. An iPad needs a USB-C or Lightning adapter that supports USB accessories. Zebra also publishes scanner SDKs for Windows, Android, iOS and Linux for apps that want more than keystrokes.

Do I need a driver?

No. In USB keyboard mode the DS2208 types each scan into the active field. Zebra's 123Scan utility is a free optional download for changing settings — it isn't required to scan.

Will it read a barcode from a phone screen?

Yes. That's the main reason to choose a 2D imager over a 1D laser scanner. The DS2208 reads QR codes and other 2D codes from screens as well as print; Zebra's typical range for a 20 mil QR code is 0 to 11 inches.

How do I make it press Enter or Tab after each scan?

Scan the suffix programming barcode from Zebra's DS2208 Product Reference Guide, or set the suffix in 123Scan and program the scanner with the barcode it generates. Enter is the common choice for point-of-sale and spreadsheet entry; Tab moves to the next field in a form.

What's the difference from the DS2278?

The DS2278 is the cordless version of the same imager: same optics, symbologies and decode ranges, with Bluetooth 4.0 to the host and a 2,400 mAh battery. Choose the DS2208 for a fixed register where a cable is fine and there's nothing to charge; the DS2278 when staff scan away from the counter.

Can I reuse the cables from my LS2208?

Yes. Zebra states that the DS2200 series is backward compatible with LS2208 universal cables, so an existing USB, RS-232, keyboard wedge or IBM cable can carry over.
