What's in the box.

One dock for old and new laptops.
USB-C or USB-A, HP or not. The G2 runs up to three 4K displays from a USB-C laptop and two from a USB-A one, adds Gigabit Ethernet and five USB ports, and charges USB-C laptops at up to 100 W.

Charges USB-C laptops.
Over its USB-C connection the G2 sends up to 100 W to an HP laptop, or up to 75 W to other brands, while it runs the displays. The dock itself runs from its own adapter through the 4.5 mm input underneath.
With the USB-A adapter on the cable, a USB-A laptop gets the accessories and displays. HP sells a separate 4.5 mm and USB-C Dock Adapter G2 for barrel charging of older HP laptops; it is not part of this bundle.

Up to three displays.
Pick your laptop and layout.
Two DisplayPort outputs driven by DisplayLink, plus HDMI from the laptop's own USB-C video. Choose how your laptop connects and how many screens you run.
The two DisplayPort outputs are run by DisplayLink: the laptop sends their picture over USB, which is how a USB-A laptop can drive screens. HP says the DisplayLink driver comes from the HP support site or Windows Update.
HDMI is fed by the laptop's USB-C video (DisplayPort Alt Mode), so the third screen needs a USB-C or Thunderbolt laptop with video on its port.
USB-C figures are HP's published external-monitor support for the G2 by host DisplayPort version; actual output depends on the laptop. HP's data sheet notes that its display counts can include the notebook screen, and that three 4K displays need a Thunderbolt or video-capable USB-C laptop. The DisplayPort outputs need the DisplayLink driver. 4K means 3840 × 2160 or 4096 × 2160, QHD 2560 × 1440 or 2560 × 1600, FHD 1920 × 1080 or 1920 × 1200.
Ten ports. Any laptop.
Video, network and two USB-A on the back; two USB-A and an audio jack on the side; a USB-C charging port up front, and a USB-A adapter on the cable.

Wired where it counts.
Gigabit Ethernet gives a laptop that lives on Wi-Fi a steady connection at the desk. On HP laptops the dock also keeps the network identity and wake features IT relies on, in every power state.
- Gigabit EthernetRJ45, 10/100/1000 Mbps.
- Wake on LANFrom off, sleep or hibernation on HP and HP-supported notebooks; some laptops only wake from sleep.
- MAC address pass-throughThe laptop keeps its own network identity through the dock, on HP and HP-supported notebooks.
- LAN/WLAN switchingListed by HP among the G2's network manageability features.

Built for mixed fleets.
One dock model for USB-C and USB-A laptops, with the manageability HP lists for fleets of HP notebooks.
Firmware updates, pushed
HP says IT can push dock firmware to managed notebooks for later install, even while the two are disconnected.
eTag
Track docks by product name, serial number and MAC address with HP's electronic asset tag.
PXE boot
Image a laptop over the wire through the dock.
USB-C or USB-A
The same dock serves USB-C laptops and older USB-A ones through the adapter on its cable.
Works with what you already own.
USB-C laptops with DisplayPort Alt Mode get everything; Thunderbolt laptops work at USB-C speeds; USB-A laptops connect through the adapter on the cable for two DisplayLink screens, USB and network.
USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode for HDMI and charging, or a USB-A port for the DisplayLink screens and accessories. HP tested select non-HP laptops from Apple, Dell and Lenovo.
One driver: DisplayLink, from the HP support site or Windows Update, for the two DisplayPort outputs.
Renewed, the way we do it.
Every G2 goes through the same five stations before it's listed. If it doesn't pass, it doesn't ship.
Intake and identification
Model, part number and serial logged. Anything that isn't a genuine HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 is rejected here.
Full functional test
Every port loaded: both DisplayPort outputs through the DisplayLink driver, HDMI on a USB-C video host, Ethernet link and USB-C charging checked on a real laptop.
Firmware and erase
Dock firmware updated where the host allows it. Settings returned to factory defaults; any stored settings cleared.
Clean and grade
Housing cleaned and inspected. Cosmetic grade recorded.
Repack with the right adapter
Matched with a 120 W power adapter and the cable set for this listing, packed in a new box.
Backed by AnyHDD's one-year warranty and 30-day returns, with free return shipping on defective items. We've supplied IT hardware to businesses since 2006.
Factory sealed.
This one is new and sealed, so it skips the bench entirely. The dock stays in its sealed box; the cables and cloth in the bundle are packed alongside it.
New stock arrives sealed and stays that way, so there is no bench record to show.
It carries the same 1-year AnyHDD warranty as everything else on the site.

Questions we get asked.
Will the G2 work with my USB-A laptop?
Yes. Connect through the USB-A adapter on the dock's cable and install the DisplayLink driver. HP rates USB-A laptops for up to two 4K displays on the DisplayPort outputs, plus the USB ports and Ethernet. HDMI and charging need a USB-C laptop; HP sells a separate 4.5 mm and USB-C Dock Adapter G2 for barrel charging older HP laptops.
Do I need to install a driver?
Yes, one: DisplayLink, for the two DisplayPort outputs. HP says it comes from the HP support site or through Microsoft Windows Update. HDMI on a USB-C video laptop works through DisplayPort Alt Mode.
Will it work with my non-HP laptop?
Yes. HP tested it on select Apple, Dell and Lenovo laptops. Non-HP laptops get up to 75 W over USB-C instead of 100 W, and the power button, Wake on LAN from warm and cold dock and MAC address pass-through work only on HP or HP-supported notebooks.
Does it work with a Mac?
HP lists macOS among the supported systems and tested a 13-inch MacBook Pro (M2). HP doesn't provide Ethernet and audio drivers for Mac, and the DisplayPort outputs need the DisplayLink driver.
Why can't I get a third screen?
The third screen is HDMI, which comes from the laptop's own USB-C video. USB-A laptops, and USB-C ports without DisplayPort Alt Mode, stop at the two DisplayLink screens. On USB-C, check your laptop's DisplayPort version against the selector above: three 4K screens need DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC.
How fast does it ship?
Every order ships with tracking. Delivery options and timing are shown at checkout.
What warranty comes with it?
One year from the date of delivery. It may also be eligible for the original manufacturer's warranty, but AnyHDD's own 1-year coverage applies either way.One year from the date of delivery, covered by AnyHDD.
What if I need to return it?
If it fails in the first 30 days, you choose replacement or refund. There is no restocking fee, and refunds go back to your original payment method. If the item arrived defective, damaged, or isn't what you ordered, AnyHDD pays the return shipping; for any other reason the return label is yours to cover.
Is anything left on the G2 from a previous owner?
No. Renewed units go through firmware and reset before they are listed: settings returned to factory defaults, and any stored settings cleared. We've supplied IT hardware to businesses since 2006.
