Charges while it works.

The dock runs from its 135 W ThinkPad slim-tip adapter and sends 65 W to Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C laptops over the same cable that carries the displays and data.

The rear Always On USB-A port charges a phone or headset whenever the dock is on its adapter. On selected ThinkPads, the dock's power button works as the laptop's own power button.

Fourteen connections, front and back.

Wired where it counts.

Gigabit Ethernet gives a laptop that lives on Wi-Fi a steady connection at the desk, and with ThinkPad laptops the dock passes through the network tools IT already uses.

  • Gigabit EthernetRJ45.
  • PXE bootStart a supported ThinkPad from the network through the dock.
  • Wake-on-LANWake on LAN and Wake on LAN from Dock, from a variety of power states.
  • MAC address pass-throughThe dock uses the laptop's own MAC address on the network.

Built for the whole floor.

A ThinkPad dock designed for desks IT manages, not just plugs in once.

PXE boot

Image or start a supported ThinkPad over the network straight through the dock.

Wake-on-LAN

Wake on LAN or Wake on LAN from Dock, for overnight updates on supported ThinkPads.

MAC address pass-through

The dock takes the laptop's MAC address, so network policies keep working.

Power button control

With the laptop connected, the dock's button works as the laptop's own power button.

Works with Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C laptops.

Lenovo built the Gen 2 for 2017 and 2018 ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C notebooks and lists Windows 10 and Windows 7.

Windows10, 7
What the laptop needs

A Thunderbolt 3 port for 4K 60 Hz and three displays; a USB-C port with video gets the rear ports, at up to 4K 30 Hz.

What you need to install

The dock driver from lenovo.com/support/docks. Displays come on once Windows has started.

Questions we get asked.

Will it work with my non-Lenovo laptop?

Lenovo lists 2017 and 2018 ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C notebooks on Windows 10 or Windows 7. Lenovo doesn't list other brands for this dock, and its setup poster says to use the dock only with a Lenovo or ThinkPad notebook. macOS isn't on Lenovo's list.

How many monitors can I run, and at what resolution?

With a Thunderbolt 3 laptop, up to three 4K displays at 60 Hz: two from the rear (not both ports of the bracketed DisplayPort/HDMI pair) and one on the front Thunderbolt 3 port. With a USB-C laptop, the rear ports drive up to two displays at up to 4K 30 Hz; the front Thunderbolt 3 port can't drive a display.

Why does one of my monitors go dark when I plug in both DisplayPort and HDMI?

Lenovo marks one rear DisplayPort/HDMI pair with a bracket. If you use both ports of that pair at the same time, only the DisplayPort monitor stays on. Use one of those two ports, plus another rear port for a second display.

Can I connect my laptop to the front USB-C port?

No. The front Thunderbolt 3 port is for devices and a display; Lenovo says not to connect the computer to it. The laptop connects to the rear host port with the Thunderbolt cable.

My laptop isn't charging, or the dock does nothing.

The dock always needs its own adapter: it is not powered by the laptop. Make sure the 135 W adapter that came with the dock is connected and the dock driver is installed, then check the laptop's Thunderbolt or USB-C port.

How fast does it ship?

Every order ships with tracking. Delivery options and timing are shown at checkout.

What warranty comes with it?

One year from the date of delivery. It may also be eligible for the original manufacturer's warranty, but AnyHDD's own 1-year coverage applies either way.One year from the date of delivery, covered by AnyHDD.

What if I need to return it?

If it fails in the first 30 days, you choose replacement or refund. There is no restocking fee, and refunds go back to your original payment method. If the item arrived defective, damaged, or isn't what you ordered, AnyHDD pays the return shipping; for any other reason the return label is yours to cover.

Is anything left on the Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 from a previous owner?

No. Renewed units go through firmware and reset before they are listed: settings returned to factory defaults, and any stored settings cleared. We've supplied IT hardware to businesses since 2006.
