What's in the box.

Monitor cables are not included: video leaves through the two rear USB-C ports, so monitors need a USB-C cable or a USB-C display adapter.
One cable. Two 4K screens.
Plug the Surface Connect cable into your Surface and the dock takes over: 120 W of charging, two 4K monitors at 60 Hz, wired network and six 10 Gbps USB ports.

Charges while it works.
The 199 W power supply runs the dock and sends up to 120 W through the Surface Connect cable, enough for Surface Book 3 and nearly every other Surface under full load.
The front USB-C ports deliver 15 W each for phones and accessories; the rear USB-C and USB-A ports deliver 7.5 W each.
USB-C ports do not charge your Surface or any device that needs more than 15 W. USB load power is 60 W in total.

Two 4K screens at 60 Hz.
Pick your layout.
Video leaves through the two USB-C ports on the back. Choose one or two screens to see the maximum resolution Microsoft lists.
Figures are Microsoft's published maximums for Surface Dock 2. There is no HDMI or DisplayPort socket on the dock: connect a USB-C monitor directly, or use a USB-C display adapter (sold separately) for HDMI or DisplayPort monitors. Real-world results also depend on the monitor.
Every port, labeled.
Two USB-C ports on the front for fast charging; video, USB, network and audio on the back. Every USB port runs at 10 Gbps.

Built for the whole floor.
Surface Dock 2 was designed to be managed at scale: silent updates, port control and remote wake.
Silent updates
Firmware arrives through Windows Update, or as MSI packages deployed with Configuration Manager, Intune or other MSI tools.
SEMM port control
Surface Enterprise Management Mode lets IT turn USB data, Ethernet and audio on or off and restrict which Surface hosts can use the dock. Microsoft notes a software license is required for some features.
Wake from the network
Wake docked devices from Connected Standby, hibernation or shutdown for servicing without relying on users.
WMI reporting
A WMI provider reports the dock's firmware and policy state to management tools.
Works with your Surface.
Surface Dock 2 connects through Surface Connect. Microsoft lists every compatible model below; there is no support for non-Surface laptops.
A Surface Connect port and Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11. Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book (1st Gen) are not compatible.
No driver hunt. Firmware updates arrive through Windows Update; the Surface app shows the dock's firmware status.
Compatibility list from Microsoft's "Use Surface Dock 2" support page; exclusions from the Microsoft Store page.
Renewed, the way we do it.
Every Surface Dock 2 goes through the same five stations before it's listed. If it doesn't pass, it doesn't ship.

Questions we get asked.
Will it work with a non-Surface laptop or a Mac?
No. Microsoft states there is no support for non-Surface host devices, Windows 7 or Windows 8. The dock connects only through Surface Connect.
Does it work with my older Surface?
Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book (1st Gen) are not compatible. Surface Pro 6, Surface Pro (5th Gen), Surface Laptop 2, Surface Laptop (1st Gen), Surface Book 2, Surface Go, Go 2 and Go 3 work, and run two 4K monitors at 30 Hz rather than 60 Hz.
How do I connect my monitors?
Connect the video cables to the two USB-C ports on the back. A USB-C monitor plugs in directly; an HDMI or DisplayPort monitor needs a USB-C display adapter (sold separately). There is no HDMI or DisplayPort socket on the dock.
Can the USB-C ports charge my phone or my laptop?
The front USB-C ports deliver 15 W each, enough for phones and accessories; the rear USB-C and USB-A ports deliver 7.5 W. The USB-C ports do not charge your Surface or any device that needs more than 15 W. The Surface charges through the Surface Connect cable, at up to 120 W.
Some ports don't work. Could the dock still be managed by another company?
A dock enrolled in Surface Enterprise Management Mode can have USB data, Ethernet and audio turned off for hosts that are not authenticated. The Surface app (Surface Dock 2 page) shows the policy state; removing management needs a reset package from the organization that enrolled it.
How quickly does it ship?
Every order ships with tracking. Delivery options and timing are shown at checkout.
What if it isn't right for me?
You have 30 days to return it, with free return shipping on defective items.
What warranty does it come with?
