What's in the box.

Reads anything you point it at.
The cordless DS2278 is the same 2D imager as Zebra’s corded DS2208: it reads QR codes, coupons on a phone and shipping labels as easily as a UPC, at any angle. The cradle charges it, sends each scan to the register, and switches it to hands-free when you set it down.

Phone screens, faded labels, wide codes.
Zebra’s PRZM decode software is built for the barcodes that stall a 1D scanner: coupons and boarding passes on a phone, labels that have been printed badly or rubbed, and codes at an angle. The imager reads through ±65° of skew and pitch and any rotation, with as little as 25% contrast between bars and background.
The aim line works like a laser scanner’s, and the illumination flashes on the code itself to confirm a read, useful when the beeper can’t be heard over a busy store.

Pick what you'll scan.
See how far away it reads.
Zebra publishes a typical near-to-far decode range for each barcode type. Choose one to see it drawn to scale.
Ranges are Zebra’s typical figures for the DS2200 series (DS2208 and DS2278 share the imager) at the stated barcode resolution; printing quality, contrast and ambient light affect real-world results.
Pick it up, or let the cradle hold it.
Seated in the cradle, the DS2278 scans hands-free and charges at the same time. Lift it out and the trigger takes over, about 10 m (33 ft) from the cradle in open air.

Drop it in the cradle. It pairs.
The cradle connects to the computer by cable and to the scanner over Bluetooth. Insert the scanner and it pairs with that cradle on its own; from then on every scan arrives as typed characters in whatever field is active, a point-of-sale app, a spreadsheet or a browser.
- Pair on insertionEnabled by default. A pairing barcode on the cradle does the same job.
- Auto-host-detect cablesThe cradle identifies USB, RS-232, keyboard wedge and IBM 46XX hosts from the cable fitted.
- Scan-to-ConnectPairs the scanner straight to a Bluetooth PC, tablet or phone in one step, without the cradle.
- Wi-Fi friendly modeKeeps the scanner off the channels your wireless network uses.

One scanner, a whole shift.
Zebra built the DS2278 to stay in service all day: a battery sized for a long shift, several ways to charge it, and tools to manage a fleet.
A battery that lasts
2,400 mAh lithium-ion, rated for 84 hours of operation per full charge on Zebra’s checkout test profile, or up to 110,000 scans at 60 a minute.
Charge it any way
From the cradle or straight from a USB port with a Micro USB cable. A BC1.2 USB port charges enough for a 14-hour shift in about an hour.
Fleet configuration
123Scan builds one programming barcode for a whole configuration; Scanner Management Service manages scanners remotely.
Software support
Zebra Scanner SDKs for Windows, Android, iOS and Linux; beeper, LED and symbologies controllable from Windows, Android and iOS hosts.
Works with the register you have.
Through the cradle it types like a USB keyboard, which every operating system understands. Paired straight to a tablet or phone, it works as a Bluetooth keyboard.
A free USB port for the cradle cable, or a serial or keyboard port with the matching Zebra cable. The cradle draws its power from the host port.
A driver for keyboard mode, or a separate power supply for the cradle on most USB hosts.
New, ready to connect.
This DS2278 bundle is sold New: a new scanner and cradle, bundled with Zebra’s USB cable and an AnyHDD microfiber cloth.

Questions we get asked.
Does it work with a Mac, an iPad or a phone?
Through the cradle’s USB cable the scanner types like a keyboard, which a Mac, Windows PC or Chromebook understands without a driver. It can also pair straight to a Bluetooth PC, tablet or phone with Zebra’s Scan-to-Connect; the Product Reference Guide has setup steps for iOS, Android and Windows hosts.
How far from the cradle can I walk?
About 10 m (33 ft). Zebra rates the Class 2 Bluetooth radio at about 10 m (33 ft) in open air with a clear line of sight to the cradle. Walls, shelving and other radios shorten it.
How do I pair it with the cradle?
Insert the scanner in the cradle; pairing on insertion is on by default. You can also scan the pairing barcode on the cradle. Each cradle’s pairing barcode is unique to that cradle.
How do I make it press Enter or Tab after each scan?
Scan the Add Enter Key or Tab Key barcode in the DS2278 Product Reference Guide, or set a suffix in 123Scan and program the scanner with the barcode it generates.
What’s the difference from the DS2208?
The DS2208 is the corded version of the same imager: same optics, symbologies and decode ranges, powered from the USB port with nothing to charge. Choose the DS2278 when staff scan away from the counter, or want the cradle’s hands-free mode without a cable on the scanner.
What condition will mine arrive in?
This listing is new: it ships factory sealed in the manufacturer's original packaging, with the one-year AnyHDD warranty from the date of delivery.
What warranty is included?
