The DS9308 sits on the counter and reads whatever passes its window, a UPC, a QR code on a phone, a coupon, a driver’s license, without anyone lining it up. A megapixel sensor and Zebra’s PRZM decoding handle crinkled, faded and low-contrast codes, on a base with a near-zero footprint.
Codes it shouldn’t be able to read.
An 800 MHz processor, a 1280 × 800 sensor and Zebra’s PRZM imaging read poorly printed, damaged, crinkled, faded and truncated codes, DotCode and dotted Data Matrix through cellophane, and codes on a glossy phone screen. The curved exit window cuts the reflections that blind other scanners.
Preferred Symbol picks the one barcode you want from a crowded label, and Multi-Code Data Formatting reads several codes in one pass and sends them in the order your software expects.

Over USB the DS9308 starts as a keyboard, so every scan lands as typed characters in whatever field is active, a point-of-sale app, a spreadsheet or a browser. Zebra’s auto-host-detect cables recognize the interface for you.

Questions we get asked.
Does it work with a Mac, an iPad or a Chromebook?
Over USB the DS9308 autodetects the host and starts as a HID keyboard, which a Mac, Windows PC or Chromebook understands without a driver. An iPad or Android tablet needs a USB adapter that supports keyboards.
Will it read a barcode from a phone screen?
Yes. The curved exit window is designed to cut reflections from glossy screens, and Zebra’s typical range for a 20 mil QR code is from contact to 7.5 inches.
Can I pick it up and use it handheld?
Yes. It has a scan trigger for handheld use; on the counter it works hands-free in presentation mode.
How do I make it press Enter or Tab after each scan?
Scan the Add Enter Key or Tab Key barcode in the DS9308 Product Reference Guide, or set a suffix in 123Scan and program the scanner with the barcode it generates.
What’s the difference from the DS9208?
The DS9308 is Zebra’s successor to the DS9208: a 1280 × 800 sensor, faster swipe speed, a ratcheting four-position base, DotCode and Digimarc-capable models, and 1,000-tumble durability. It takes DS9208 cables and power supplies.
What condition will mine arrive in?
